Since 2007 I have assisted in the Trial By Jury Initiative of The Leavitt Institute for International Development. In Ukraine I have lectured on the American jury trial to law students in more than a dozen Ukrainian law schools in the cities of Kyiv and Kharkiv, and by video lecture to students in Chernivtsi and Lviv. My experiences in Ukraine have been among the high points of my twenty-five year career as a practicing attorney and a judge. The following is my public travel diary dedicated to my family and to my colleagues and students in Ukraine and America.

Judge Daniel Bay Gibbons

The Honorable Daniel Bay Gibbons has been a trial judge in the suburban area of Salt Lake County, Utah since July 1, 2001. He graduated cum laude from the University of Utah in 1983, where he studied history and Russian, and then received his Juris Doctor degree from the Willamette University College of Law in 1986, where he was an editor of The Willamette Law Review. He was a civil trial attorney in Salt Lake City for fifteen years prior to his appointment to the bench. Active in civic and volunteer efforts, he is a former sponsor of the Tolstoy Foundation's Refugee Resettlement Agency in Salt Lake City, and was elected to one term on the Holladay City Council. An enthusiastic runner, he completed three marathons in 2009. He enjoys reading and speaks both German (fluently) and Russian (poorly).
